HAMBURG, Germany - L-3 SAM Electronics announced today that it has been awarded a contract to provide the electrical distribution system for six Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN). The ships will be built at the Boustead Naval Shipyard in Lumut, Malaysia, with Design Authority provided by DCNS of France. Deliveries are scheduled between 2017 and 2021.

"We are extremely proud to be selected to provide our state-of-the-art technology for the Royal Malaysian Navy's newest class of ships," said Armin Groth, managing director of integrated systems at L-3 SAM Electronics. "This latest project follows the earlier successful completion of similar work we performed for the RMN's fleet of six Offshore Patrol Vessels. It also confirms our position as an established turnkey solutions provider and highlights L-3's unrivaled range of in-house solutions to support the global shipping industry."

L-3 SAM Electronics is responsible for total project management, planning, engineering and supervision on-site for all cable work, including installation aboard the vessels. It will also coordinate and interface all relevant systems and subsystems as part of a common electrical platform system.

L-3's advanced electrical systems encompass the complete power distribution system with main, emergency and distribution switchboards; shore supply equipment; converters; and transformers. Also included are LED lighting systems, helicopter supply facilities and special systems, such as Impressed Cathodic Corrosion Protection (ICCP) and Impressed Cathodic Anti-Fouling (ICAF) systems. All of the L-3-supplied systems will be fully integrated as an integral part of the contracted scope of supplies.

Likewise, L-3 will be working closely with its Malaysian industrial partners, sharing know-how and working closely with its local partners to ensure the contractual offset goal is achieved.

L-3 SAM Electronics will additionally provide integrated logistics support, including technical documentation, spare parts concepts and crew training. The contract is the latest in a series of major turnkey projects undertaken by L-3 SAM Electronics for the shipbuilding industry. The company is also actively involved in providing services for other navy vessels around the world, with projects including support of the German Navy's latest K 130 class Corvettes and F 125 class frigates.
